Reclaimed Pitch Pine Flooring |
|
Historically a virtually extinct species. Prior to the colonisation of North America, the species Long Leaf Yellow Pine (Pinus rigida) grew in vast tracts across the continent. Commonly referred to as "Heartpine" in the US due to the milling process in which only the heart, or centre, of the tree was harvested. It was cherished for its strength and high density.
One of it's best by-products being pitch(tar), hence the name. Sadly by the late 1800's the species was almost entirely logged out. Much of it made its way into large cotton mills in the US and Britain, and the great stately homes and cathedrals of that era. it is from these buildings now being demolished that we reclaim beams and re-saw them into flooring. The most resillient of the pine family, it has a beautiful distinct colour and grain pattern.
Available in prime and rustic grades with widths up to 9 inches and lenghts to 15ft.
